ONE (for teachers)

If a child who came to your class could only remember ONE thing you taught, how would that be?

Recently I've heard the same idea from two different sources about communication. To communicate in a way that impacts people, it was suggested that a teacher must focus their energy on finding ONE core message and find as many ways as possible to teach and explain that message. It may seem easier than teaching 5 things, but it's actually harder in some ways.

It reminded of the opportunity and the challenge we face on Sundays. Our materials we teach is already set up this way, to communicate and focus on ONE point every week, and ONE core message every month. ( If you ever notice the repetition in our lesson plans, it's there for a reason.)

But just repeating something doesn't make it memorable. The challenge is to focus our effort in our groups to "make it memorable" What was the main point we taught last Sunday? Did I communicate it enough that the kids got it? Not just repeating it, but how did I help them learn it?

I want to remind myself (and our team) to focus on ONE memorable Biblical lesson each week that can really impact lives.

How? Every week won't be a home run, but here's ONE tip - As the leader, make sure you REALLY know the "ONE thing". Know it several days before the lesson. Remind yourself before class, focus on it during class, and review how you did after class.

Well, that's the ONE main thing I wanted to share this week.

How have you experienced the benefits or challenges of ONE?
