The Naughty Words
I think the movie was the first I really noticed the bad language. Probably because my mom let me buy this comic/photo book version of the story, which had all the language. She carefully marked them out with a black marker, but if I held it just right, I could tell what they were. Interestingly, she marked out the word "virgin" which made me assume that was a naughty word.
What's also strange is she bought me the album and I listened to it over and over. But somehow I knew better than to sing along with the best song, "Greased Lightning"
The Overall Message
I don't think this sunk in as a kid, but the whole message of the movie is pretty messed up. A nice girl meets a nice guy. But he was only pretending, he's really a tough guy who's kind of a jerk. So the moral to the story is: the girl should change and become a jerk like him, because she "needs a man." Huh?
Anyway, did you see the movie as a kid? What do you think about it now?
